Press Release: Behavioral Health Association of Providers Launches PPCC Certificate Program
October 15, 2018
An answer to the increased scrutiny of commercial payor insurance over substance use disorder treatment provider billing practices.
Forged from a passion for behavioral healthcare service providers trying to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the healthcare industry, BHAP developed the PPCC Provider Payor Certificate of Compliance to provide the necessary confidence and oversight for healthcare insurance benefit payors interested in rewarding best-in-class providers with fewer claim denials, higher reimbursement rates, and simpler lines of communication.
Behavioral Health Association of Providers develops a new standard for behavioral healthcare providers in order to ease the scrutiny of commercial insurance payors over substance use disorder treatment providers. The Provider Payor Certificate of Compliance is an annual certificate of recognition that the provider complies with applicable regulations, best-in-class policies & procedures, and maintains an unsurpassed ethical code of conduct: thus giving the commercial insurance payor a high level of confidence in the service provider.
Commercial insurance payors have increasingly been skeptical of billing practices within the addiction treatment space due to a few unscrupulous providers committing fraud and abuse with their billing practices. However, BHAP has long been aware that these unethical billing practices have been fairly localized within a group of providers that have attempted to take advantage of the healthcare insurance companies. The vast majority of behavioral healthcare providers strive to operate with integrity and transparency; however, the relationship between commercial insurance payors and providers of treatment services remains strained.
"BHAP professionals audit the operational documentation and systems of the provider, which results in a comprehensive report of findings and compliance with PPCC standards," states Andrew Martin, COO of BHAP. Andrew continues, "Using the report findings as a basis, the provider will be issued a PPCC Certificate of Compliance badge and Certificate or be provided a checklist of corrective actions required to receive the PPCC Certificate of Compliance. BHAP can also provide consultation to assist in corrective actions, and BHAP also provides refresher audits and re-issuance of the PPCC Certificate of Compliance on an annual basis."
What makes the PPCC different than any other certificate of recognition is that BHAP has an unprecedented knowledge of the law, regulations, and compliance in the behavioral healthcare arena. BHAP already offers the behavioral healthcare industry the Certificate in Addiction Treatment Marketing which is the premier certificate program for providers demonstrating collegiate-level ethics education, regulatory compliance, and best practices.
